A unique team
Meet the team
PS Emma MacDonald
Hello, I am the Sergeant on the Great Expectations team and I have been involved with the programme since it started in 2013. I joined the police in 1997 and have had a varied career, I have always been passionate about early intervention and the difference that can be made to the lives of young people by enabling them to be the best that they can possibly be.
I am married with three children who are all sport mad, I spend my spare time ferrying them across the county to different clubs and activities and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
PC Matt Bishop
Great Expectations CoordinatorHello, I’m Matt, a police officer having joined Leicestershire police in 1998, before transferring to Gloucestershire police in 2008 and was given the job of organising the Great expectations programme in January 2016.
I’ve a keen interest in farming, having grown up with animals of all sorts from an early age and I try to keep my hand in as much as I can from time to time.
YST Programme OfficerLeon Roberts 43 from Gloucester. Worked with children and young adults for over 20 years in residential care homes, in schools and after school clubs. I’m a Gloucester lad born and raised so take it quite personally working with kids in my community.
Outside of work I am a husband and father to 2 boys aged 6 and 8. They take up a lot of my time. Enjoy Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) where I train at a local gym in Gloucester called The Gloucester Range Academy. I am also an MMA referee which takes me across the country and across the world working. I have been a referee for over 15 years and worked in countries such as the USA, Japan, China, Brazil and Australia.
Great Expectations Senior MentorHi, I’m Fuzz the Senior Mentor of the Great Expectations programme, having worked with young people since 2013 and since January 2016 being employed as the Senior Mentor with the Great Expectations programme.
I have been married to my wife Sophie for twelve years and have two young children, a boy of 10 years and a girl of 17 months. In my spare time I enjoy playing cricket and the PS4 (I am the best!). But, the most important thing to me is that I enjoy being a dad!
Gloucestershire Fearless Youth WorkerHello, I’m Leon, I work for Fearless Crimestoppers, having been with them since April 2016. My main focus is delivering knife crime related talks to young people all over the county.
In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit and being outdoors including surfing, boxing, wild swimming and some extreme sports. I currently live in Cheltenham having done so for the majority of my life. I like to set myself a yearly challenge/adventure, this year I’m hoping to either do a ‘wing walk’ on a plane or to cycle the Danube from Austria to Croatia.
PCSO Rachel Hopton
Great Expectations Girls Group LeadHello, I’m Rachel, I’m a Police Community Support Officer joining Gloucestershire police in 2006. I am a mother of two children, a girl of 16 and a boy of 11.
In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, but most of my time I spend with my partner and kids, generally enjoying family life.
InspectorI joined the Police in 2002, performing a variety of roles since. However, my current role aimed at preventing and intervening early has been one of the most rewarding. I am incredibly proud of Great Expectations, the team who deliver it, and what they are able to achieve in partnership with young people.
Outside of work I particularly enjoy football and music and spend as much time as possible with my wife and young children.
